PONDA: Goychya Kul Mundkaracho Avaz on Sunday unanimously demanded with the government to repeal the amendment in the Tenant Mundkar Act by passing a special ordinance and hand over the cases to specially appointed Mamlatdars.
In a meeting at Azad Maidan in Mardol-Ponda, Kul Mundakars threatened to come on to the roads to protect the tenants and Mundkarial land for the future generation of farmers. They further threatened that the farmers of the State, who are tenants and Mundkars, will be forced to show their might by coming on the road and staging a rally to the Assembly.
Speaking at the meeting, former chief minister Ravi Naik said the Act is amended to give the right to landlords through backdoor entry. “Is it right on the part of the government to amend the Tenancy Act when the Parliament has included it in the Constitution of India in the Ninth schedule? Konkani language is also included in the Constitution and can the State government make any changes in such laws passed by the Parliament?” questioned Naik.
Goychya Kul Mundkaracho Avaz President Guru Shirodkar said the tenants will definitely lose the land, as they will have no proof to produce in the civil court to prove their tenancy. He demanded to immediately withdraw the amendment and said the land should be given to the tenants.
He further demanded to conduct special survey of tenants and Mundkars which he claimed the government has not done. He also demanded special relaxation for the Mundkars to carry out repairs or rebuilt their houses.
