PANJIM: Goa Kul Mundkar Sangarsh Samithi (GKMSS) on Friday demanded that the Chief Minister make changes to the Goa Agriculture Tenancy (Amendment) Bill 2014 before the panchayat polls. The samiti has threatened to protest on the first day of monsoon session if no changes are made to the 2014 amendment.
Addressing the media, GKMSS spokesperson Santosh Mandrekar said, “Two days back the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that special mamlatdars will be appointed to fast track tenancy cases post panchayat polls but why wait till then? The Chief Minister should change the amendment before the state goes for panchayat polls.”
He added, “We do not have trust in him, we demand that necessary changes to amendments be made before the polls and later after the elections are over special mamlatdars may be appointed. If the government does not make necessary changes in the amendment, our samiti has planned to protest on the first day of the monsoon session.” He added that the samiti will educate their community of the kul mundkar issue.
In 2014 the then government led by Parrikar had amended the Tenancy Act transferring all the cases from mamlatdars’ court to the civil courts.
