MARGAO: Mungul residents took to the streets to object laying of a gas pipeline along the Margao- Colva road passing through their locality saying that it would pose danger to residents and others.
Cruz Fernandes, a resident who also has years of experience in the gas and oil industry, was the one who first met the workers at the site and questioned them regarding the various parameters required for testing the pressure of a pipeline. This included the mandatory barricading of the area where the pipeline was being laid.
While the workers were unable to provide adequate responses or show certification obtained, Cruz pointed out that work being carried out on Sunday was not being done in accordance with the regulations and that it was clear that the workers were trying to test the pressure of the pipeline despite the risks involved.
Besides demanding that the locals be shown that all the certifications and procedures have been compiled with, including digging of the road and checking on the materials required for testing the pressure on the pipeline.
Fernandes also demanded that the workers ensure that the road is closed by the traffic department when the pressure is being tested so that no harm befalls on the commuters that pass by given that it is a busy stretch and also for the safety of the neighbouring residential community.
