The beleaguered Margao municipal chairperson, however, put up a brave face saying the structure in question belonged to his father and that he has nothing to do with the structure in question.
Capping proceedings on the illegal structure located at Mungul following a complaint lodged by Savio Dias, the chief officer said the structure in question had been gifted to the municipality in the year 2013 and is now municipal property. “As such , Section 174 of the Goa Municipalities Act rightly applies to this structure, which as per the transgression report belongs to one Julio Rebello and is occupied by Gonzaco Rebello”, Naveen stated in his order, adding that the court deems fit to issue a demolition order without notice.
When the media approached the municipal chairperson for his comments on the chief officer’s demolition order, Rebello said he suspected a political hand behind the chief officer’s action. “The structure does not belong to me. It belonged to my father and is now being looked by one of my sisters as the rent from the structure goes to her. I have nothing to do with the structure”, Gonzaco said.
