VASCO: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has reiterated that the forthcoming municipal elections are not fought on party lines and that the BJP is only supporting the party workers who have filed their nominations.
He also stated that if the BJP-backed candidates emerge victorious, there would be no hindrance while taking up developmental projects and the party would be strengthened at the grassroot level.
Parsekar was speaking to reporters after inaugurating nine candidates’ offices in Vasco on Wednesday in the presence of South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida.
“Let me make it clear that this municipal election is not fought on party lines; BJP is only supporting its workers who have filed their nominations to strengthen the party at the grassroot level. Also, it is very important to understand that we have a BJP government at the Centre and State. If we have BJP roots at the municipal level, there is nothing that can hinder developmental works. We only require the support of people who have already supported us during the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. I am sure that they will support the BJP-backed candidates for the municipal elections,” said Parsekar.
He added, “Regarding the regularisation of illegal structures, the BJP government is aware of the importance of regularising structures.”
Commenting on panel floated by industrialist Narayan Bandekar, Parsekar said, “People understand that money can’t buy everything. We are aware that some people are luring voters with money, but it is in their benefit to support the party in power so that works can be expedited.”
Addressing the gathering, MP Sawaikar said, “It is true that Vasco lost the ‘Smart City’ race, but if the BJP-backed candidates are elected, then we can together work to to bring about development along those lines.”
