VASCO: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza denied any political interference in reservation of wards for the October 25 municipal elections and said the announcement would be made on or before September 21.
Speaking to the media in Vasco on Tuesday, D’Souza who holds the Urban Development portfolio, clarified that allegations about political interference in the ward delimitation process have been made by persons upset by the changes. He said the government has no system by which all the people can be happy with its decisions.
“One should understand that geographical area is not proportional to the population and giving perfect delimitation is not possible. If anyone gives me a formula to make all the wards equal then I am ready to accept it but then that has to be accepted by the majority,” he said.
He added, “This is the best I could do in the given circumstances and as per my information most of the areas have been rationalised. I would like to assure the people that neither have I interfered nor has there been any interference from other political leaders.”
