VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council will start supplying essential commodities to the people from the Control room which will be set up at the municipal buidling from Thursday.
The municipal chief officer said that the councillors have been requested to identify the homeless, beggars and people stuck in Vasco from other places so that they can be supplied with the food packets.
The message on social media has gone viral stating that “All the (Vasco) Councillors have been informed that the government has made arrangements for providing food packets to homeless, beggars and those from other States who stuck in Vasco.”
Further, the message said that all the councillors are requested to identify homeless people, beggars and people who are stuck in Vasco within their wards and inform the number of packets required to senior supervisor at the garage.
Later, when inquired about this, Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar said, “The government has appointed an agency for supplying the food packets to the homeless, beggars and the people from other States who are stuck in Vasco.”
He also said that all councillors, as per the instructions of the government, have been asked to identify such homeless persons from their wards so that “we can supply them food.”
“As per my information, the temporary residential arrengement of this people are likely to be in Goa Rehabilitation Board, but that power rests with the Deputy collector and that you will have confirm,” he added.
Sankhwalkar further informed that municipality would also set up a control room in municipal building for home delivering essential comodities.
“Talks are also in progress with the Goa Bagayaitdar to tie up with the municipality for home delivery of essential commodities to the people. MMC Chairman Nandadeep Raut is having a discussion on this issue with Goa Bagaitdar,” he informed.
