Murder and dowry accused Rajawat gets bail

MARGAO/VASCO: The South Goa District And Sessions Court, Margao on Wednesday granted bail to naval officer Anurag Singh Rajawat in the LPG cylinder vapour cloud burst case reported at New Vaddem, Vasco in November last year.

The District and Sessions Court released Rajawat on certain conditions.

Rajawat was arrested in connection with the death of his pregnant wife Shivani Rajawat (26) and mother-in-law Jaidevi Chauhan (50) from Madhya Pradesh, due to alleged cylinder vapour cloud burst in their flat at New Vaddem, Vasco on November 18 last year.

On January 5 this year, a report was sought by the Mormugao Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Bhagwant ‘Pratik’ Karmali to thoroughly probe the death cases.

The Vasco Police then arrested Rajawat as accused under section 302 and 304-B of IPC.

Since Rajawat’s wife died within seven years of marriage, section 304-B of IPC was applied and inquiry was conducted by the Vasco Police.

Vasco based Advocates Adv Pritika D Shirodkar and Adv Nand Kishore Dubey argued on behalf of Rajawat. They argued that the alleged incident was an accident and that Rajawat had been falsely implicated in the crime registered against him.

Representing the State, the public prosecutor Adv V G Costa strongly opposed the granting of bail to the accused, stating that his custody was required as he was not cooperating with the police in the investigation.
