Murder attempt at Nerul, one held

PANJIM: The Porvorim police arrested a West Bengal native on the charge of attempting to murder a Bardez resident over a money dispute.

According to the police, a complaint was registered on October 1, that one Dipak Dumar Padhi allegedly abused and assaulted Anil Mahadev Gawas (33) with a knife and attempted to commit his murder.

The accused was traced on the same evening at Nerul. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa on Monday, and was remanded to seven days police custody.

Investigation revealed that the accused, who was presently staying at Nerul, Bardez, was working at a casino at Candolim as a steward. The incident occurred over the issue of money which was owed by the accused to the victim, police said. 

The victim is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim.  

Further investigation is underway with PSI Sarvesh Bhandari.
