VALPOI: Murmure villages in Guleli panchayat area of Sattari taluka have been facing shortage of drinking water for the last six days. The Public Works Department (PWD) is negligent in repairing the damaged pipeline that has cut off the water supply, claim the villagers. The trip of one tanker, sent for 70 houses, to ease the drinking water shortage in the village does not serve the purpose.
The villagers allege that complaints made in this regard are being ignored. The enraged villagers marched on the water supply office in Valpoi on Tuesday and expressed their resentment. The villagers have warned to take out Ghagari Morcha on Wednesday, if the drinking water facility is not restored by Tuesday night.
Briefing on the issue, former Sarpanch and villager Rohidas Gavkar reiterates that despite multiple complaints no action in fixing the pipe was noticed. Gavkar alleged that the concerned officers were not cooperating.
Gavkar said the government announced 16,000 Litres of free water for each month but in villages like Murmure, only fifty litres of water is available in two days.
The villagers had reached the PWD office at 10 am. However, the officers of the office were found missing till 11.30 am.
