PERNEM: With no water supply for the past one month, Murmuse-Tuem villagers threatened to hold “vessel morcha” if the PWD Department fails to come up with a permanent solution.

On Thursday, Tuem villagers gathered to raise their voice against the scarcity of water that they are facing from past several months.

They said scarcity of water have become a major issue that they face especially during the summer.

The villagers informed that they get water on alternate days but in insufficient quantity due to which they are forced to buy private tankers.

“Water comes every alternate day but it does not reach to our tanks due to low pressure. There is a pump but it’s not in working condition for the last 15 days. Even after bringing it to the notice of department, the officials have failed to repair it,” the villagers said.

“Every time we gherao the officers, water is released just for two days but afterwards same issue continue,” they added.

“For the past 20 years this issue exists but the PWD Department has failed to come up with a permanent solution. When former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar was in power, he tried to solve the issue. He even got new pipeline but what is the use if there is no water,” A Chodankar, a villager said.

The villagers said that their particular ward in Murmuse-Tuem is badly affected with this issue since there is no other source of water such as well and added that the well located at the pump house is in good condition and if a high horsepower pump is installed then it will help in solving the issue to some extent.

“If this issue is not resolved then we will hold ‘vessel morcha’,” warned the villagers.
