PANJIM, NOV 19
Buckling under a complaint, the city-based Mushtifund Saunstha has decided it will not accept donations for admissions to pre-primary by the end of this week.
In reply to one Kashinath Shetye from Alto-Fondvem, Ribandar, Suhas Sardesai, Secretary of the Saunstha, wrote they would soon advertise in the newspaper regarding the same. Sardesai further communicated to Shetye that the management had decided to change his receipt from donation to deposit.
Shetye had raised a banner of revolt against donations and approached the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Panjim alleging the police and the education department had not acted on his complaints. He maintained accepting donations was a rampant practice in many schools across the State.
In this regard, he had cited section 13 of the Right to Education Act 2009 which states no school or person should while admitting a child collect any capitation fees.
Shetye had charged that the Saunstha’s pre-primary school had demanded capitation fees in the form of donation of Rs 10,000. He said the school had made it very clear to him that the admission of his son would be subject to the payment.
The JMFC had issued notices to the police and the education department on an application filed by Shetye.
