PANJIM: Musical Warriors, a group of environmentalists mentored by late Bismarque Dias has been rejuvenated to save River Mhadei and protest the letter of Chief Minister Manhar Parrikar to the Karnataka BJP Chief on talks for the release of drinking water to that State.
“Now, the group has been rejuvenated with new members joining in and it stands firm against the politicisation of the Mhadei issue by the government, particularly the Chief Minister,” Sudeep Dalvi, a group member, said.
“Mhadei or Mandovi is the lifeline of Goa. It is our mother. No compromise for political gains, which would undermine Goa’s interests and jeopardize the environment and ecology of Mandovi basin, will be acceptable to Goans,” the group said.
Musical Warriors had opposed the Leading Hotels Golf Course in Tiracol, Competent Hotels project in Cansaulim and Raheja project in Carmona.
After Dias’ death, the group protested the land grab in the name of Electronic City in Tuem, government’s control over tiatrs in Panjim, the condition of the wholesale fish market in Margao and M V Lucky 7 at Miramar.
The activities of the group suffered and slowed down as it got involved in a legal battle against the government in the Dias murder case.
The group will continue to fight to save River Mhadei, they asserted.
