Muslim groups asked to celebrate Zulus fest united

MARGAO: After a long discussion, the various Muslim organisations were asked to unite to celebrate their Zulus on November 21 and a meeting would be convened next week to decide upon the route for this procession.
The Muslim community was unhappy with the new route implemented last year which directed them to Ravindra Bhawan and back instead of the earlier route of going from the Jamma Masjid to Margao municipality and going round the garden and returning to the Masjid.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Raut Desai pointed out that the Muslims did not honour any of the promises made last year with respect to the Zulus that resulted in total confusion and chaos and strongly objected to going around the municipal garden as it would block both the branches of national highway.
He also pointed out that while earlier there used to be only one procession, last year different groups had different processions that caused the mess.
Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai, making it clear that there should be no inconvenience to people, asked the various Muslim groups to come together under one banner to have the Zulus. He said that the route could be finalised at a meeting next week.
