VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to install mobile toilets at the vegetable market in Vasco.
This decision was arrived at after an inspection was held at the market by MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar, Councillors Saifullah Khan, Sandesh Mesta, Krishna Daji Salkar and the market supervisors. The mobile toilets will be installed near the open land next to Chicken market behind the market.
The team conducted an inspection at the site to check the feasibility of having a permanent toilet facility for market vendors and their staff. Sanitary inspector of MMC who was also present at the inspection informed that the place had sewerage connection and there was a possibility of having a permanent toilet facility at the location.
The vegetable market had no toilet facility for years now and the labours and vendors were forced to urinate in the open. The vegetable market houses around 90 vendors selling fruits and vegetables. The Chairperson of MMC Kritesh Gaonkar told that the facility will benefit both the MMC and also the vendors. The Councillor Saifulla Khan said that the vendors have been deprived of a toilet for long time and were fined for urinating in the open. He has commended the effort of MMC to have toilets here.
