MARGAO: The centuries old Mussol dance, which is performed during the carnival in the villages of Chandor and Cavorim, will be held with restrictions due to the prevailing COVID pandemic situation.
The dance will be performed at only two places in Chandor while at Cavorim it will start early with restrictions on entering people’s residences.
On February 16, the dance performance will commence at 7:30 pm at the St Anthony’s Chapel at Cavorim and later the dancers will perform in front of select residences. It is expected that the dance performance will be over by midnight.
However, at Chandor more popularly known as Cotta, the dance will be held on Monday this year. It will be performed at only two places. As usual it will begin at the “mandd” near the temple ruins at Cotta and then the next performance will be at St Tiago’s Chapel.
President of the Mussol Committee Remmy Furtado said, “The restrictions are because of the pandemic and to maintain social distancing.” He said, “Around 45 years ago, as there were no males in the ward to perform the dance since all were working on board, they had the performance at these two places only.”
