PANJIM: The State government has extended the period of the order prohibiting Sri Ram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik’s entry into Goa till January 14, 2016.
The order issued by the Home Department on Saturday comes over a fortnight after the Supreme Court dismissed Mutalik’s appeal seeking to put a stay on the order of the High Court of Bombay at Goa and challenging the State’s repeated order banning his entry into Goa.
“The District Magistrates (North and South) on the basis of report received from the Superintendents of Police of both the districts have expressed the necessity to extend the ban of Mutalik and his associates/members of Sri Ram Sene for a further period, as Government may deem fit, as there is apprehension that in case the orders are lifted then there is possibility of violence and serious law and order problem in the State disturbing communal harmony, tourism and creating fear in the mind of public and tourists,” the order states.
The controversial activist had stated that repeated prohibitory orders since last year violated his fundamental rights as he wanted to visit the BJP-ruled State for religious purpose.
The present order mentions that on the request of the district magistrates, the government was satisfied that there are sufficient grounds for proceeding under Section 144 (4) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 to prevent Mutalik and his associates/members’ entry in Goa.
