My endeavour that no house is demolished for Borim bridge: Minister

PANJIM: Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira on Monday said that it will be his endeavour to see that none of the houses are demolished for constructing the proposed Borim bridge project.

Speaking to reporters after holding a meeting with the PWD officials and Loutolim locals, Sequeira said, “It will be my endeavour that no house goes. So in the meeting, we have suggested some more tweaking. We have agreed that we will meet again on around December 18 and PWD will come out more suggestions.”

The Minister said the discussions are on and various alignments are being discussed.

“We had various proposals before us. The PWD has tried to incorporate some of our suggestions. With those suggestions many houses are going. To be precise, 12 houses are going. We are working on various alignments,” Sequeira said.

“In the meeting, everybody agreed that we do not want houses to go. In principle, everybody agreed that a bridge is required. However, some sacrifices will have to be made,” he added.

Last month, after chairing a meeting with the concerned PWD engineers, Loutolim sarpanch Joan Fernandes and villagers, the Minister had said that as per the proposed new Borim bridge alignment, not a single house is going to be demolished in Loutolim village.
