Mystery shrouds death of MPT staff

A 52-year-old employee of the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) was mysteriously found dead by the side of the highway opposite the Toyota Showroom at Cortalim on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as one Deelip Kalangutkar of MPT Colony, Headland Sada, Mormugao, who was working in the MOHP department of the MPT.
Verna police found the body at about 6.30 pm and declined to comment on the nature of death, stating that the autopsy was yet to be conducted on the body.
However, some port employees have suspected foul play and expressed surprise in the manner in which the body was found along the busy highway at Verna and that too, at 6.30 pm.
Incidentally, Kalangutkar had been reported missing from his residence since Wednesday.
Verna Police has registered a case of unnatural death and the autopsy is expected to be conducted on Friday.
