N-East handicrafts expo gets underway

The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms exhibition got underway at the Ravindra Bhavan on Wednesday.

MARGAO: The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms exhibition got underway at the Ravindra Bhavan on Wednesday. 

Around 140 crafts persons from the North Eastern states are participating in the exhibition. 

After inaugurating the exhibition, Ravindra Bhavan chairman Damu Naik said the exhibition will help showcase before Goan people the crafts from the North East.

Assistant Director of the exhibition, B Mili, informed cane and bamboo crafts, handloom weaving, artistic textile weaving, wood carvings are displayed at the exhibition. He said the objective behind holding the exhibition was to promote sales of handicrafts, increase awareness in favour of handicrafts, expose craftsmen to the market and launch new products. The exhibition is funded and sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
