After massive crack down on violation by mining trucks, the transport department today found all the trucks in North Goa adhering to the law.
“I have been informed by my respective officials that all the trucks in North Goa carried ore as per permitted capacity. There was no violation in any form,” Director Transport Arun Desai said.
Meanwhile, the truck, carrying ore in South Goa remained off road protesting transport departments drive against overloading.
“My only request to the truckers is to abide by various decisions and directives by the Supreme Court and High Court of Bombay at Goa. They should not do any activity which might amount to contempt of Court,” Desai said adding that the operators are demanding Chief Minister Digamber Kamat intervention in the matter.
The extensive drive, which kicked-off on Saturday against overloaded trucks in the mining belt managed to detain around 23 trucks in North Goa itself registering 103 cases.
Desai said many truck operators had approached us with valid documents and receipts from the mines department. “Some have also paid the fine as per motor vehicles act. The department has released around eight trucks, which were detained on Saturday,” he said.
The department has also registered 119 cases in South Goa of which 42 were booked for overloading alone. After much protest on trucks overloaded with ore, the transport department has swung in action.
The department on February 22 had issued notices to the mining firms asking to abide by the High Court directives on overloading of the trucks failing which department would confiscate the trucks, laden with ore.
