PANJIM: The Goa University, recently re-accredited with an ‘A’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), has been asked to further improve itself by setting up knowledge clusters with tourism and hospitality. This is one of the 10 suggestions made by the visiting peer team, since State attracts lakhs of domestic and international tourists annually.
It has also emphasized the need to attract students from other parts of the country and world in the GU campus that imparts various internationally relevant courses and subjects. But what tops the list is the suggestion to commence new programmes in bioinformatics, performing arts, psychology, education, law, geography, etc. In addition to these, upgradation of sports facilities and setting up cultural heritage museum has been recommended.
NAAC, on the other hand, has lauded GU’s step towards environment consciousness, innovations and best practices. It said that the lush green university campus is tobacco and plastic free besides observing successful implementation of recycling of e-waste, rain water harvesting and ground water recharging, Study India Programme for students from Japan, online students’ feedback etc.
