PANJIM: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned another loan, this time of Rs 53.90 crore, to Government of Goa under the Rural Infrastructure Fund (RIDF) for the construction of three rural bridges.
The bridges will be constructed from Gaundalim to Cumbharjua, Cuncolim to Quepem at Sanvorcotto and a footbridge at Velsao Pale. By far the biggest of these is a 400 metre bridge between Gaudalim and Cumbharjua across the River Mandovi to be built at the cost of Rs 60 crore.
The other two bridges are in South Goa District ~one at Sanvorcotto of 21 mtr which will be constructed after demolishing an existing bridge on the Cuncolim-Quepem district road at estimated cost of Rs.5.00 crore and the second is a new bridge at Dando Mollo in Velsao Pale Village Panchayat in place of an existing footbridge. The 35 metre long bridge costs Rs.3.00 crores.
NABARD had already sanctioned a loan of Rs 141.10 crore to Government of Goa under the Rural Infrastructure Fund (RIDF) as recently as January this year.
The January loan is being used by the government to construct three crucial bridges — the Calvim-Aldona bridge across the Mapusa River, the Tormas-Ozrim bridge across the River Chapora and a parallel Arpora-Baga bridge across the Baga Creek and also complete works of the Tillari canal.
With the sanction of this latest Rs.53.90 crore, the total financial support given by NABARD to Government of Goa during 2012-13 under RIDF stands at Rs.644.24.
