VALPOI: Nagargao Panchayat went cashless on Saturday, the first panchayat to do so in Sattari taluka and in Goa after Varkhand Nagzar panchayat in Pernem.
“From Saturday onwards, we have started collecting house tax, cycle tax, professional taxes, certificates fee and other receipts, by swiping the cards. We have kept the Point of Sale machine (POS machine) in our panchayat,” said Sarpanch Parag Khadilkar.
“We have already educated our people from all seven wards regarding the POS machine, by showing them demos in panchayat hall; they were shown the videos how to swipe cards,” he informed. On Saturday, some locals were seen paying their house and other taxes by swiping their cards.
“We have to pass on the message to the people that our panchayat is on the way to becoming fully cashless and digital panchayat in Sattari,” Khadilkar added.
