VALPOI: Due to frequent failures in the cable bunch, parts of Nagargao Panchayat in Valpoi such as Nandoda, Bambar, Dhave, Uste, Kodal, Satre, Derode etc, have been suffering from the inconsistent power supply.
With the monsoon at the door step, the situation will only worsen and the villagers protested against the same and visited Valpoi Electricity Department’s sub-station to inform them about the issue.
According to sources, the facility of a bunch cable was provided around two years ago as the wire cables going through the forest were being damaged due to the trees. However, the locals have claimed that the bunch cable has failed to improve the situation as it keeps breaking down.
It may be recalled that the State government had introduced the bunch cable system since it was difficult to repair the power lines at night especially during the monsoon.
Meanwhile, Assistant Engineer Deepak Gawas said that the power supply was restored post midnight around 2 am.
He also informed that the 39-km long bunch cable has weakened in some places and the repairing work will be undertaken soon.
He also added that the two proposals to lay underground cables are ready and assured that the situation won’t be the same by the arrival of the next monsoon.
