PANJIM: The NaMo buzz echoed in the ongoing budget session of the Goa Assembly on Wednesday to which Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said it refers to Hindu mantra of Lord Krishna.
He was responding to NaMo references made by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco who argued the chants were raising fears that Goa might be merged with Gujarat. The MLA said so since the newly-recruited 104 police sub-inspectors were being trained at the Gujarat Police Academy, in Karai, Gandhinagar.
“Why has the training shifted from its regular training centre at Nashik to Gujarat? Earlier, it was Maharashtra connection and now Gujarat…” he said adding that NaMo is usually referred to BJP’s PM candidate and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi.
“Na Mo is usually namaskar to Lord Krishna. But in this context (Lok Sabha elections), we are doing final namaskar to Congress,” was Parrikar’s prompt reply.
