PONDA: The pothole-ridden road from Nanus to Ganjem, Usgao has turned into a death trap for motorists.
For over six months the locals have been demanding that the road be repaired or hot mixed but in vain. The above stretch is frequently used by commuters to travel from Usgao to Ganjem-Guleli in Valpoi constituency.
According to commuters, the Irrigation Department a few months ago had laid a water pipeline from Ganjem water plant to Kelini, Usgao. While carrying out the work, the portion of the road was dug to lay the pipeline. However, after laying the pipeline, the trenches were not covered properly. The road repair work is pending and to add to their woes, massive potholes have developed and the road has turned into a death trap for commuters.
The locals have been demanding that the road be repaired before any untoward incident occurs but their calls appear to have fallen on deaf ears.
The locals said riders from Khotode, Guleli, Damshe and Ganjem use the stretch to commute to their respective workplaces in Ponda. Not only riders, even car and bus drivers are scared to commute on this road.
