Nap under truck proves fatal for cleaner

The decision to sleep under a truck proved fatal for a truck cleaner when he was crushed to death after the truck driver set the truck in motion at Pissurlem-Sattari on Monday afternoon.
According to Valpoi police, the incident occurred when the truck cleaner, Vishnu R Chawan, a native of Bijapur-Karnataka, but residing at Vasco, who was resting under the stationary truck (GA-06-T-9022).
Police further informed that the truck had come from Hospet to Pissurlem to unload materials at a company in Pissurlem.
The truck driver, Ashok M Chawan of Bijapur, was unaware that Vishnu was resting under the truck and started the truck in order to park it further. But the cleaner was crushed under the rear wheels of the truck.
Police have sent the body at GMC in Bambolim for autopsy. The truck driver was arrested and later released on bail. Police is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Shivram Vaigankar.
