Goa Police has asked the organisers holding ‘Narakasur-slaying’ competition on larger scale to step up precautionary measures to ward off any untoward incident.
Keeping in mind Sanatan Sanstha’s threat of campaign against glorification of Narakasur demon, Goa Police this year is leaving no stone unturned to ensure safe Narakasur-slaying celebration on November 4.
Police spokesperson Special Branch SP Atmaram Deshpande told reporters that they have undertaken adequate and additional arrangements at major locations.
“We have stepped up the security at all points, infact. All places where ‘Narakasur-slaying’ competitions will be held and others locations are under strict vigilance,” he said.
The organizers are asked to install CCTVs at the event venue and carry out checking of every person and vehicle in and around their respective locations. “Our police force will be deployed at every location,” Deshpande added.
The Hindu right-wing group SS plans to launch campaign against the ‘glorification’ of the mythological demon, which according to them is more commercialized.
SS has been under police scanner after its members have been accused of carrying out Margao blast as a protest against the demon-killing celebrations, on October 16, 2009.
Two of its members – Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik – died in the blast when Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) exploded immaturely when they were ferrying to a crowded area of the said competition.
In a recent statement, SS managing trustee Virendra Marathe told reporters that the narakasur slaying competitions have ended up glorifying the demon instead of Lord Krishna who killed the former.
