PANJIM: The Directorate of Mines and Geology has imposed a fine to the tune of Rs 40.55 lakh on Comunidade of Naroa for permitting an illegal laterite stone quarry to operate within its jurisdiction.
The Comunidade of Naroa has been instructed to pay the fine within next two months.
During the inspection, it was found that illegal extraction was carried out in survey No 135/0 of Narve village. Also the present managing committee of the Comunidade stated that the illegal extraction was being carried out by the previous managing committee.
The department decided to recover the cost of the mineral as per section 63(3) of Goa Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1985 and under Rule 63 (3) of Goa Minor Concession rules.
In another case, a fine to the tune of Rs 5 lakh has been imposed upon M/s Venkateshwara Power Project Limited for transporting e-auctioned iron ore from Kolamb mine through a route on which transportation was not permitted.
