Narrow and weakened bridge poses safety threat in Patwal-Khotoda

PONDA: The deteriorating condition of the narrow bridge at Patwal-Khotoda has raised concerns as it poses a risk to motorists due to increased vehicular traffic. The road connecting Barajan to Patwal, which spans approximately one km, has witnessed three accidents in the past year, with students frequently using this route.

The route’s narrowness, compounded by its popularity among travellers from Valpoi to Mollem, has resulted in vehicles speeding recklessly. The road’s dimensions are so limited that trucks are unable to navigate it. Adding to the danger, the absence of compound walls on both sides of the bridge heightens the risk. The absence of safety measures, particularly during nighttime, has locals fearing potential accidents leading to tragic outcomes, akin to incidents at Banastarim and Sanguem bridges.

Notably, a recent mishap involving three two-wheelers on the bridge left two individuals severely injured just three months ago. In response, locals have rallied for the installation of speed bumps within the village to deter fast-moving traffic.
