PONDA: The narrow roads in Bethora and Panchwadi panchayat areas, which come under jurisdiction of Shiroda Constituency, are in need of widening.
The sharp turns and increasing presence of vehicles have made it dangerous for the motorists to use the roads. The ongoing work of laying underground power cables in Bethora have only added more to the woes of the locals and traffic.
The respective work is being carried out for past few months. During monsoon, the power supply from the Bethora Industrial Estate till Nirankal would disrupt and people would have to wait in the dark till the supply is restored. Hence, the Electricity Department undertook the work of laying cables underground.
However, the rolls of cables are just kept by the roadside which hinders the traffic and pedestrians. Two months ago, many passengers were injured after a bus turned turtle due to narrow road. This route is often used by school buses as well.
Meanwhile, the traffic has increased in Panchwadi as the area is in the neighbourhood of Sanguem and Dharbandora Talukas. The traffic movement is increasing day and night and the narrow road of Ponda-Sanvordem are falling short to endure the stress.
Mishaps on this route are on the rise for the last two years. Last week, a woman lost her life at Panai-Panchwadi while another one was severely injured in a mishap. There are sharp turns everywhere including at the crowded Shiroda market till ferry.
