PANJIM, JULY 7
Terming the 100 per cent bandh observed in Goa as unprecedented, the Aldona Legislator Dayanand Narvekar today stated that the common man is hurt by the price rise as the government schemes for price control do not reach them.
“The total bandh observed by people of Goa was unprecedented,” Narvekar said here today adding “It also gives an insight into minds of people who have not taken lightly the burden of price rise in all sectors.”
Narvekar, the former finance minister in the Kamat government, stated that the scheme announced by the government “Government intervention for Control of Price Rise” is not reaching aam admi.
“The essential commodities supplied under the scheme are not reaching aam admi. There are nine outlets of Goa Marketing and Supply Federation Ltd. supplying commodities like dal, peas, wheat, flour coconut etc,” he said adding “however, most of the outlets are situated in cities.”
Similarly, seven types of vegetables are supplied by Goa Horticulture Corporation through about 80 centres by six mobile vans, he said.
“Considering Goa has more than 180 panchayats and 13 municipalities it is obvious that poor/middle class families are not getting benefit of above schemes. Similarly production of ration card should be made compulsory as there are reports of mismanagement of scheme by vested interests,” he stated.
Narvekar further said there was need to revise all the schemes immediately so that price rise does not affect the general population.
Similarly, he said, the government can decide to reduce VAT on gas cylinders for households by 10 per cent whereby people will get some relief. “However it should be given only to ration card holders,” he stated.
