MARGAO: It’s good news for Margao, Fatorda and Curtorim. A Nashik-based agency has approached the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and committed to clear the Sonsoddo dump within one working year. On Monday, two officials of the agency, two of the GSPCB and one Margao Municipal Council engineer inspected the dump to get a brief idea for an outlay of the segregation plan. The officials inspected the plot and the composition of the accumulated waste.
“The waste at Sonsoddo is above 50,000 metric tons, and the party that came forward has made a strong commitment to clear 200 tons of garbage at a time. At this pace, the agency said it will complete the clearing scientifically within one year,” said GSPCB Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha, adding, “If everything goes as planned, the work may begin as early as October.
According to details provided by the agency, it has the technology to segregate the waste into five different forms: plastic, mud and stones, compost or bio mud, glass and rubber.
The SUDA has control of the deal and will float an e-tender for the work. The party also met the Director of Municipal Affairs Elvis Gomes to discuss the technology.
