PONDA: Ponda Police on Tuesday arrested Anil Pagare, a native of Nashik in Maharashtra, for cheating many Goans to the tune of several lakhs of rupees by assuring them to provide jobs in the US. A case has been registered against him under Section 420 of IPC.
According to Ponda PI Mohan Gaude, one Sidhesh Mapari from Usgao filed a complaint on November 17 against Pagare alleging that in March this year the accused invited many Goans at a hotel at Margao, conducted interviews and took money from them by promising to provide jobs in US.
Complainant Sidhesh Mapari gave the accused Rs 2.6 lakh with hope that accused would provide him job in the US. But thereafter whenever Mapar tried to contact the accused, he was neither answering the call nor returned the money.
Following Mapari’s complaint, a Ponda police team arrested the accused in Maharashtra.
During investigation, police found that Pagare had cheated many more people. So far, police had received complaints from four people who are claiming that they were cheated to the tune of RS 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
It is learnt that there were at least 14 Goans attended the interview with the accused. Hence more Goans may likely to file complaints against the accused at various police Stations in Goa.
Meanwhile, the accused was produced before a local court and which remanded him in police custody for two days.
