The National Games 2023 have kicked off in Goa, with the Badminton tournament taking place at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao on Thursday. The inauguration of the games was conducted by Goa’s Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant, alongside State Sports Minister Govind Gaude.
During the opening ceremony, all the dignitaries, including Chief Minister Sawant, engaged in an exhibition match at the stadium as a prelude to the formal launch of this prestigious national event. CM Sawant expressed the excitement of Goans who have been eagerly awaiting this moment for the past decade, as Goa is finally hosting the National Games. He assured that all the necessary infrastructure for the games is fully prepared to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
Highlighting the enthusiasm of the local community, Chief Minister Sawant mentioned that a large number of students had gathered to witness the inaugural match, and he anticipates that all the stadiums will be filled to capacity throughout the duration of the National Games.
The formal inauguration of the National Games will be conducted by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on October 26 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Fatorda. This grand sporting event will see over 10,000 athletes from across the country participating in 43 different sports disciplines.
