National parties claim victory citing huge voter turnout

BJP confident of winning both Lok Sabha seats

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on Wednesday, claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will lead in all 20 constituencies in North Goa and 14 constituencies in South Goa.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in the city, Sawant said, “Bhau (Shripad Naik) will win with more than one lakh margin and we will win South Goa seat with a margin of around 50,000-60,000. I am firm on it. I’m not saying so. Even Congress leaders too have said the same. They have accepted that Congress’ support is limited to four constituencies only. We will slightly lag behind in six assembly constituency in South Goa, otherwise in rest of the constituencies we will have a lead.”

He said Goa stood second in the country as far as polling percentage in the third phase of Lok Sabha election was concerned.

Goa BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade claimed that INDIA Bloc will be decimated completely after the elections.  He said five constituencies in North Goa registered more than 80 per cent of polling which will be favourable to the BJP.

Tanavade denied that the polling percentage in Panjim was lower. He said, in fact, this time there was more turnout of voters in Panjim compared to previous years, for Lok Sabha elections.

Union Minister Shripad Naik said he is firm that this is his last election but final decision rests with the party.  “I have made my stand clear. It is my individual wish that this election is my last election. However, we are disciplined soldiers of the party. We do what party says,” he added.

INDIA Bloc says people have vented their ire against BJP
PANJIM: INDIA Bloc leaders in the State, on Wednesday, expressed confidence of winning both the Lok Sabha seats and vowed to continue the alliance to protect the State.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress House in the city, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar said, “People have vented their anger against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and hence the percentage has increased. We can now say with confidence that we are winning both seats.”
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) President Adv Amit Palekar alleged that Chief  Minister Pramod Sawant and his leaders had such a fear of INDIA Bloc that he reached pockets of South Goa constituency, which he had never visited.
“I am happy that people still trust the democratic process and hence they turned up in huge numbers for voting. I am thankful to the people of Goa for trying to protect the State,” he said.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) (Sharad Pawar) State President Jose Philip D’Souza said people voted to vent their anger against the BJP.
“There was a reason why they voted against them. People are serious about the issues Goa is facing. Hence this election looked like an Assembly election, where a huge voter turnout was recorded,” he said.
INDIA Bloc’s South Goa candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes said he will be always thankful to the people for giving love during the campaign.
“I am also thankful to the INDIA Bloc, activists and others for supporting our parties,” he said.
