PANJIM: The Department of Information and Publicity will celebrate National Press Day, on the occasion of Foundation Day of the Press Council of India on November 16 at Mini Hall of Institute Menezes Braganza, Panjim from 3 pm onwards.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will be the chief guest while Secretary (Information and Publicity) Subhash Chandra, IAS, will be the guest of honour.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be bestowed on Cyril D’Cunha, a senior journalist in recognition of his dedicated services and immense contribution towards Journalism. This award is awarded after the retirement from the service in the field of journalism.
Former Dainik Herald Editor Rajendra Dessai, Herald Chief Reporter Vithaldas Hegde, senior photographer Arvind Tengse, Herald Senior Assitant Editor Peter D’Souza and former Gomantak editor Kishor Shet Mandrekar will be felicitated for their contribution to the field of journalism.
The National Press Day will be celebrated in collaboration with Goa Editor’s Guild, Goa Union of Journalists, Photo Journalist’s Association Goa, Electronic Media Journalist’s Association, Sports Journalist’s Association Goa and South Goa Journalist’s Association.
There will be an interactive session on the topic ‘Impact and Influence on Media Reporting on Crime and Sensitive Matters’ wherein IPS, SP North, Goa Police, Shobhit Saksena; Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) representative Vasudev Pagi; Times of India Assistant Resident Editor, Vijay D’Souza; Representative of Electronic Media Loukik Shilkar; Photojournalist Sandip Naik and representative of COOJ, a mental health foundation will participate. It will be moderated by Goan Varta Editor Pandurang Gaonkar.
Also “The Goa State Journalist Awards” conferred in nine categories for news items and articles published during the previous calendar year will be awarded to the winners.
