PANJIM: The National Press Day to acknowledge and honour the Press Council of India, a statutory and quasi judicial establishment will be observed on November 16 at the auditorium of Directorate of Art and Culture, Patto, Panjim at 10 am. Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant will inaugurate the National Press Day celebrations.
Press Council acts as a moral watchdog in ensuring that Indian journalists are not driven by any influence or external factors. The day has been observed to coincide with the foundation day of the Press Council of India, every year.
Information and Publicity Secretary Ravi Dhawan, IAS will be the guest of honour.
The Department will bestow the ‘Dr TB Cunha Lifetime Achievement Award’ for the Year 2021 to Gurudas Rauji Singbal for his selfless and lifelong contribution in the field of journalism.
Five Eminent journalists, namely – Sergio Caldeira, Vinayak Naik, Sudhir Sabnis, Simon Alponso and Suhas Belekar will be felicitated for their contribution to the profession of journalism.
Eminent Journalist, Prashant Panjiar, will deliver the keynote address on ‘PhotoJournalism – Relevance inspite of the challenges’.
The Department of Information and Publicity in collaboration with Goa Editors Guild, Goa Union of Journalists, Photo Journalists Association Goa, Electronic Media Journalists Association, Sports Journalists Association, and South Goa Journalist’s Association will organise the event.
Awards under Goa State photo contest and exhibition scheme conducted by the Department and Goa State Journalists Awards for 2020 will also be presented on the occasion.
