BENUALIM: Navelim Veterans scored in either session to record a comfortable 2-0 win over Chinchinim Veterans to enter the semi-finals of the 19th V M Salgaocar Memorial Veterans soccer tournament, organised by Prime Sports Club, at St. John the Baptist ground, Danddo Benaulim, on Saturday.
Navelim was the far more superior side and the winners took an early lead in the sixth minute.
Winger Ramesh Palkar’s cross was headed over the line by Chinchinim defender Inacio Cardozo to concede a corner and in the resultant flag kick, Vishant Pednekar swung in a low dipping shot which squeezed inside the near post past Chinchinim goalkeeper Charlton Furtado.
Thereafter, Chinchinim fought hard but Josley Pereira and Sunil Miranda wasted open chances with only rival Goal keeper Avertano Furtado in the goal.
After the breather, Navelim doubled the lead when Vishant Pednekar found Uday Naik with a fantastic through pass and the Medio kept his cool to steer the ball past the on rushing Charlton Furtado.
Chinchinim down by two goals, goal keeper Charlton Furtado made four brilliant saves to keep the final score decent.
Navelim Veterans will now meet the Salgaocar Veterans in the semi-finals on September 15.
