Navelim bus stop shifting: NCCF dashes letter to DoP

MARGAO: In view of the delay in the shifting of the bus stop from outside Navelim Rosary Church, Navelim Civic and Consumer Forum (NCCF) have written to Director of Panchayats (DoP) and met the South Goa district collector.

In the backdrop of Navelim Church junction being used by thousands of school and college going children, the demand has been backed by Navelim residents and parents of students.
“We have written to Director of Panchayats asking for action against Navelim Panchayat for the delay in executing the gift deed between the builder and the Panchayat for surrender of the road setback, wherein the bus stop has to be shifted from near the Navelim Church,” said NCCF secretary Joseph Vaz.
Earlier the forum had submitted a memorandum to Navelim MLA and Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado along with PWD and traffic officials.
Vaz added that they had approached the director of panchayat regarding the gift deed issue, based on their meeting with the district collector Sachin Shinde .
It maybe recalled that the former district collect N D Agrawal issued a notification on September 12, 2012 to shift the bus stop from near Navelim church to Rosary Commercial Arcade.
Vaz added that almost three years had passed since this notification was issued but till date the village panchayat of Navelim has been unable to comply with the notification.
The forum further pointed that there is some opposition from the owners of flats and shops from Rosary Commercial Arcade in spite of clear instructions from town and country planning department to hand over the road setback area to the panchayat  and given the  instructions of the district magistrate.
There were other suggestions regarding traffic diversions submitted to the traffic department.
