“Can the people get justice in your kingdom? This question was posed to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat via a memorandum submitted to his office by the Navelim Civic and Consumer Forum demanding action on a mega housing project in Telaulim village with an existing road of less than three meters.
Demanding to know how the construction project was approved by the TCP and Panchayat with a less than three meter narrow road, the Forum pointed out that the width of the approach road was shown as 15 meters as against the existing width of three metres.
There are about 35 local houses in that area as against the proposed 75 dwelling “consisting of 56 flats and 19 row houses in this project”, maintained Forum Secretary Joseph Vaz, adding “once the project is ready and people start staying, the existing road of less than three metres will not be enough for the movement of these 75 families who will be using the road. Also, parking place for these 75 new families will be another issue”.
Vaz said the local people of that ward had filed numerous complaints with the TCP, the local Panchayat, local MLA, etc. “They had visited the office of the town planner umpteen number of times and had passed resolutions at the gram sabha, but nothing happened. The TCP Dept. passed the buck on the local panchayat and panchayat gave the excuse, “we do not have technical persons to verify the details”, he said.
