MARGAO: Farmers from Navelim have demanded that the panchayat and the authorities initiate action against motocross races that take place in the village, which they say is causing them hardships.
At the gram sabha held on Sunday, the farmers demanded to know if the panchayat had given permissions for these races, to which the Sarpanch Lucia Carvalho replied in the negative.
The farmers who said that the races are causing pollution that is contaminating their fields belong to the ST community and that the loud sound from the races is affecting the health of senior citizens. They also appealed to the ST Commissioner to look into the matter.
There was a related discussion on alleged hill cutting activity in the village and the construction of an allegedly illegal road. The farmers demanded that the panchayat take action and issue a stop work order and added that the district collector had already initiated action in this regard.
