MARGAO: After a strong opposition from villagers of Curtorim and Velim, now villagers of Bellem, Navelim have also objected in erecting the mobile tower in their locality.

On Friday, villagers led by Adv Pratima Coutinho gathered at the site and demanded the authorities to stop erecting the mobile tower immediately or face the agitation.

“We are not against the mobile towers, but it should not be at the cost of people and more especially creating hardships to the villagers,” Adv Coutinho said.

She said that issues pertaining to the erecting of mobile towers in the residential areas are on the rise and the authorities are least bothered about the ill effect of the same.

“Bellem-Navelim villagers will not keep quiet with regard to erecting the mobile tower,” she stated and added that the locals were misled by the authorities at the initial stages when enquired.

A local expressed shock over the issue and questioned why the people and

panchayat body was not informed before the erecting such mobile tower in the residential areas.
