MARGAO: The locals of Maddi-Navelim took to the streets to raise their objection to the installation of a mobile tower in their neighbourhood.
Addressing media persons in Navelim, the locals said they opposed to the decision to install the tower in a private property as they believe radiation will cause harm to all the families who reside in the vicinity.
Sinatra Paes said the locals had similarly objected to another mobile tower in Navelim in the past where they had received over 500 signatures and added that they will start a signature campaign against this tower too.
The locals added that they had approached the property owner who had refused to help them.
“The owner says he does not get mobile range here and so the tower should be built. Does this mean that each time someone does not get range, one tower will be built for them,” asked Bento Silva.
The locals urged the Navelim Panchayat to act into the matter even though as per the rules the panchayat cannot intervene. They pointed out how the panchayat and municipality had helped locals in Benaulim, Borda and Dramapur who have been opposing towers in their respective areas.
