MARGAO: People from Navelim have threatened to stop all trucks coming into their village with fish from other States if the government does not take any steps to stop them within the next seven days and asserted that there should be no formalin in fish and sale of such fish should be stopped.
Briefing media persons George Barretto argued that the very fact that flies do not sit on the fish indicates that the fish is laced with chemicals and wondered why the government was no taking any action against the migrant agents who are indulging in this practice.
While alleging that these migrant agents are paying commissions to people in power, he urged TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai to act against them in the interest of Goem, Goenkar and Goenkarponn as Goan fisher folk are being affected.
“Today the ramponkars are crying that there is no demand for even their fish even though they do not use formalin and because of these greedy migrants our local Goans are suffering,” he said.
Michael D’Souza a businessman from Navelim directly alleged that Vijai Sardessai was getting commission from the agents and demanded that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane step in and stop sale of fish brought from other States.
