MARGAO: The Navelim Village Panchayat and the Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Limited SGIDCGL will hold a joint meeting and clarify the doubts of the villagers on the proposed laying of the sewerage pipeline here.
SGIDCGL officials along with the contractor appointed to lay the pipeline has also been asked to attend the meeting at 10.30 am today at the panchayat hall.
This matter was discussed earlier at the recent gram sabha as well as at the meeting of the panchayat’s Village Development Committee (VDC).
The villagers have sought to know the strategy and plans of SGIDCGL in going about with the work
of laying the sewerage pipeline.
This move comes against the backdrop of the meeting of farmers and other stakeholders that was held on Sunday wherein the Navelim VDC has focused on reviving farming in the fields around Saipem lake that were not cultivated for 30 years due to the sewage contamination into the lake via nullahs and other discharge points from commercial and
residential establishments in and around Margao town.
The Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) managed by SGIDCGL has also been criticised for dumping untreated sewage water into River Sal. Demands have been made to the authorities including SGIDCGL that all such possible points are plugged to prevent any further discharge of sewage and waste water.
