MARGAO: A group of Navelim youth has taken the initiative to paint the speed breakers in their area after the government authorities failed to listen to their pleas to look into the matter. The work has been done for the past two nights by the group of 30 boys called ‘Connect Goenkar’.
“There were a number of accidents taking place and as monsoons are approaching, we started this work. The authorities have failed in their duties. Safety should be for the full year and not only during Road Safety Week,” said Siddesh Bhagat, youth activist.
Bhagat, who leads the initiative, added that the group would be targetting all speed breakers in Navelim.
It is to be noted that there have been a spate of accidents in Navelim and the issue of the large speed-breakers has been a cause for concern as motorists fail to notice the speed breakers at night till the last second. This poses a risk to the commuters, passengers and pedestrians.
