VASCO: The drivers working for the Navy have threatened to go on a strike for allegedly giving them step motherly treatment while recruiting new drivers.
These drivers have threatened strike if the Navy doesn’t stop the recruitment process and give justice to the previous recruits.
Around 70 drivers and other ordinary grade staff under the banner of Goan Navy Employees Union, affiliated to All India Defence Employees Federation, have decided to strike work, if the Navy goes ahead with recruitment of Grade-II employees by ignoring ordinary grade staff.
“The Navy plans to recruit Grade-II staff through examination by ignoring the already working Ordinary Grade staff. We oppose this move and we have been given relief by High Court too,” an employee Pravin Mandrekar said.
“This is our gate meeting and we will make sure that the recruitment by the Headquarters is stopped by all means if they don’t agree to our demand,” Deepak Sawant said.
“They are not taking Ordinary Grade staff saying that there is excess staff. But we are only asking for taking senior staff first and then the other recruitment can follow,” a Union member said.
