Navy pays respects to sailors who died during Goa liberation

VASCO: A wreath laying ceremony was held at War Memorial, INS Gomantak, to commemorate the 59th Goa Liberation Day. 
A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented and a wreath was laid at the War Memorial by the Flag Officer Commanding Goa Naval Area. A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect for the supreme sacrifice made by the brave sailors in the Liberation of Goa.
In a press release issued here, the Navy stated that the War Memorial at Indian Naval Ship Gomantak was constructed in memory of seven young gallant sailors who laid down their lives on December 19, 1961 during “Operation Vijay” undertaken by the Indian Navy for liberation of Anjediva Island and Territories of Goa, Daman and Diu from Portuguese rule. 
The ceremony was attended by Commanding Officers and senior officers of naval units at Goa.
